Once upon a time, I had a full head of hair. Then one day I remember standing in the bathroom and looked at the top of my head and noticed that my hair was starting to thin out on top. Before I had noticed the back of my head balding a little, but when I could see more of my scalp than hair, I realized I needed to do something about it. Baldness is prevalent in my family history so I realized my chances of going bald were like taxes, there’s seemingly not much you can do to avoid it and it’s for sure not something you look forward to.

At that point, I started to do my research on ways to prevent hair loss and grow hair. I did the obvious thing and checked out synthetic hair growth solutions that have been around way before the internet. I think you know who I’m talking about.

Then I started researching the ingredients in these so called “miracle” hair growth solutions. I found ingredient’s like Minoxidil and Finasteride. A quick Google search on the side effects of these chemicals led me to consider just going bald. I found articles on WebMD about the potential side effects from Minoxidil and Finasteride and saw effects like unwanted facial/body hair, dizziness, fast/irregular heartbeat, fainting, chest pain, swelling of hands/feet, unusual weight gain, tiredness, difficulty breathing, and wait a minute - hair loss. Excuse me, I’ll just go bald.

After realizing these types of synthetic ingredients were not natural, I started looking for all-natural hair growth solutions and didn’t find a prominent, trustworthy brand. What I did find was several articles that talked about how natural ingredients, like Rosemary oil, were just as effective in hair growth as synthetic ingredients, like Minoxidil. This study, found on PubMed, illustrated that rosemary oil might be as effective as minoxidil in treating androgenetic alopecia (aka, hair loss).

At that point, I thought “What guy like me is going to know any of this?”. Thats when my hero,  my wife, came to the rescue and started making homemade shampoo with Distilled Water, Rosemary Oil, Peppermint Oil, Tea Tree Oil, and Castile Soap. Side note: my wife Jenn is much smarter than me than at most, well, anything.

After about 3-4 months, I started to noticed hair covering areas in the back of my head and noticed a thicker thatch of hair on the top of my head. Jenn also noticed the same thing when cutting my hair. At that point, I was sold on sticking with all-natural ingredients to grow my hair.

After about 2 years of using this homemade all-natural shampoo concoction and seeing results, I decided to turn this shampoo into a brand that could serve as a leader in an all-natural solution toward hair growth. A brand that could be a household name, but not force consumers to decide between crazy side effects and hair growth. This homemade concoction became Thatch.

The mission of Thatch is to make all consumers aware of the all-natural options for hair growth. The vision is to eventually be a household name and the first brand you think of for all-natural hair growth. Thatch will always use all-natural ingredients and science to guide every decision in making the product better. We will be dedicated to not only educate our customers about all-natural remedies to hair growth, but also give back to communities and people in need. Thatch is not just an all-natural hair growth shampoo. It’s a revolution to go back to Mother Nature’s roots to make life better to every person on the planet.
